Nails: Why it’s Crucial to Keep up on Trimming

November 25, 2019 by Ashley

This past weekend we were treated to a VIP session with a great friend and mentor Julie Calderon of Velocity Border Collies.

We were able to learn new techniques with both a regular nail clipper and a Dremel, as well as how to adjust the length and buff to the dog’s current need.

No matter if the dogs needs are routine, for pre or postpartum care, agility + obedience, protection work, or home life, knowing the proper techniques are crucial to your dogs health.

Because we aren’t all privileged to be able to meet with Julie, here is an excellent article with lots of valuable info.

Baby Sharks have arrived!

November 14, 2019 by Ashley

They were due (doo, doo, doo, doo) and now they’re here! 9 pups are on the ground…6 males and 3 females.

Seven are brindles and 2 are fawn. This litter is a Dutch Shepherd x Dutch Shepherd breeding. The bitch is a personal service and family home protection dog with 4 years of training under her belt ranging from basic and advanced obedience, agility, tracking, protection work, and more. The sire is an up and coming working dog who has demonstrated high-levels ofat-home and public obedience and trainability.

Both are superb family dogs and solid in public settings, can handle large or small crowds, are well exposed to car/air travel, and the everyday chaos of life with an active family with small children and cats.

Shoot us a message to put down a deposit or to find out more info.

We are excited to announce a litter of pups will be available as Christmas presents this year.

Genetic Testing

November 1, 2019 by Ashley

“Sometimes we are tested not to show our weaknesses but to demonstrate our strengths.” 🐾⁣

Both dogs have had breed genetic panels completed and have come back as unaffected from Dutch Shepherd diseases. ⁣

In addition, we completed MDR1 testing as Shepherds are one of the breeds which “could” be affected. Thankfully, both dogs are clear and not affected by the MDR1 gene either. ⁣

Have you done a genetic panel on your dog? If so what company did you use and were you satisfied with their customer service and the outcome of the results? Our process was a bit delayed but in the end everything worked out well so we are happy.

While Dutch Shepherds don’t have as much available to them to be tested as many other breeds do (Golden Retrievers have a ton!), it is still an important step in your dogs health to know what you’re dealing with and if any possible issues may arise over their lifetime.

Goodbye Pups!

July 24, 2019 by Ashley

Last week we had the great pleasure of delivering our last pup Raven (Yellow) to her furever family. Raven stayed with us until 12 weeks (four weeks longer than normal) so that she could receive some basic puppy training skills.

Some of the skills she learned:

  • Crate Training
  • Leash/Collar Familiarity
  • Public Place Exposure: Grocery store, airport, public park, etc.
  • Basic Obedience: sit, down, wait, lets go, place.

Raven was placed with an amazing military family based out of Virginia. We look forward to watching her progress as she continues her training under Revelation K9.

Check out the pictures below to see more from Raven’s delivery.

Homefront K9 Event

May 20, 2019 by Ashley

This past weekend we were privileged to support Homefront K9 at the Orlando Beer America event.

HFK9 is a veteran run non-profit that works to train and place service dogs in active duty service member homes. These dogs act as companions to the people and their families who have fought at great sacrifice to protect those of us here at home.

Complete with puppies, babies, inflatable flamingo costumes, and a hairy mermaid dunk tank, and of course lots of dogs, we were able to raise money and bring awareness to this awesome charity.

You can get involved with HFK9 by visiting their website at https://homefrontk9.org/. Consider donating bought to feed a pup in training or sponsoring a family to receive a fully trained dog.

Y'alls puppy socialization program really works. It's obvious that you guys have put a tremendous amount of time into these puppies. We literally couldn't be happier with our purchase and believe me when I say that Apex K9 will be our breeder of choice from now on.

I cannot get over how much of an improvement. I can vouch for Apex K9's training services, their professionalism, and customer service. Our Golden Retriever used to tug on the end of the leash and jump all over guests. After training, Copper was a brand new dog.

Case and Ash have a true gift with dogs. They watched our girl as a pup for 24 hours and had trained her to sit and stay in her dog bed without barking. We still use these commands 1.5 years later. Case and Ash train because they love to do it and that is a very special thing.
